Create a seating plan

Plan the room deliberately

A seating plan maps pupils to classroom positions so that access, visibility, collaboration, and practical room constraints can be considered together.

Set non-negotiable needs

Identify required seating considerations before placing anyone, such as sightlines, mobility access, support arrangements, or a need to reduce distractions.

Balance the layout

Check the arrangement for workable pairings and clear teacher movement rather than treating a random shuffle as a finished classroom design.

Test it in the room

Compare the plan with the actual furniture, entrances, display boards, and specialist equipment before asking pupils to move.

Review after use

Record adjustments prompted by the lesson, then update the chart when group dynamics or individual needs change.
